A drawer should be as large as possible really. Going by drawer runner manufacturer information the limits are:

  • width up to 1000mm
  • depth up to 750mm
  • height unspecified but probably keep height to less than width

The maximum runner length available (without getting into very specialist hardware) is 750mm but you could have the drawer box deeper, up to around 900mm

Drawerbox measurements (internal drawerpack shown)

Regarding minimums the guidlines are:

  • width greater than 50mm
  • depth greater than 250mm
  • height greater than 40mm

With a height smaller than 40mm for example then the size of the drawer box components becomes too small and then become difficult to process on automated machinery.

The maximum number of drawers in a stack is governed by accessibilty. When the total height from floor to top of the door stack starts to get over 1500mm then the drawers become harder to access without resorting to standing on tiptoes.
