Drawer technology is driven primarily by the needs of the kitchen market. With kitchens the needs are strength, resilience and cost reduction by pushing down the number of components required to build a drawer.
This has resulted in a number of drawerbox solutions based on metal sides. Metal also has the advantage that it can easily be wiped down with a wet cloth.
There are some great systems available such as Blum Legrabox and Tandembox.
However if kitchen focused drawerbox systems are used elsewhere in the home then a potential problem is that the result can look, well a bit ‘kitcheny’. This is one of the potential downsides of asking your kitchen fitter to build you some wardrobes with drawers; they will look to what they know which could result in some Howden’s kitchen base units getting repurposed!
